2025 Update:
September 13, 2025

For 2025 we would recommend Starlink. It's great technology. Here is our Starlink Referral Link for one month free service right now.

You can also get DSL from TDS which offers 18ms latency and static IPs for businesses and service on the Island.

You probably noticed the orange conduit along King's Highway and in town. Fiber is being installed on the north end, and a fiber backhaul being installed by PFN should give much better summer speeds by 2027.

Right now Starlink provides the fastest download speed available. Verizon, AT&T, and T-mobile also offer some service on the Island, but it can be spotty in places and doesn't work in the woods on the West Side or South End for example.

Note that even though Satellite looks fast based on the max download speed alone, the extreme asynchronous nature of the current consumer 2-way satellite systems with their very slow upload speed combined with the very long 750 ms ping times (vs. 200 ms with the current BIIP system and less with wireless) caused by the distance the signal has to travel makes satellite connections feel a bit laggy.  They are a slight improvement over modems, but wireless would feel much faster for all online activities except downloading a single large file.
