| John Bonner's Fence
Not much remains of the legacy of the fisherman, shipbuilder, and captain John Bonner, said to be the first Irish settler to land on Beaver Island when the Mormons were forcible expelled in 1856. This fence, his son's home (now a Centennial Farm), and some relics collapsing out in the field --plus the recordings his grandson Pat made for preservation in the Smithsonian archives-- are all that are left from a capable and strong-minded individual. |
