| Ducks Jaywalking
People are used to stopping for duck traffic in the block between the Post Office and the Cruikshank home, where newcomers are cautioned what to expect by a "Duck Crossing" sign. Now the birds seem to take it for granted that cars are willing to stop for them anywhere around the harbor. This mother escorted her brood from the Rustic Villa cabins to the long grass at the edge of the Hartle compound on the evening of 6-22, forcing the traffic (one car: ours) to grind to a halt. They were lucky we weren't going anywhere in particular. |
