| Greene's Lake
On Beaver's Island's west side, a mile south of Fox Lake and a mile east of Greenes' Bay, lies a geological dumbell-shape consisting of Greene's Lake and, running east southeast, the Greene's Lake Bog. In a wet year, the lake is little more than four feet deep. It can freeze solid in a cold winter, so fish won't survive. But the frogs hibernate in the muck, and they were trumpeting the brilliance of this evolutionarily successful strategy. |
